Today, Apple opened pre-orders for the Vision Pro headset, marking its debut as a “spatial computer.” The scheduled release date of February 2, as announced earlier, remains on track.

As the pre-order page goes live, more information about the headset surfaces, starting with the pricing details. The options are $3,499 for 256GB, $3,699 for 512GB, or $3,899 for 1TB. Apple Card provides one-year financing through monthly installments for each version.

For $499, AppleCare+ for the Vision Pro offers unlimited repairs for accidental damage protection, an “Express Replacement Service,” and 24/7 priority access to Apple experts. Ahead of pre-ordering, measure the light seal and headband using an iPhone or iPad with Face ID. Additionally, choose from two Zeiss optical inserts based on your vision – $99 for Readers inserts and $149 for Prescription inserts.

Apple crafted an almost 10-minute “guided tour” video for Vision Pro virtual reality headset, aiding users in understanding this entirely new addition. Watch it here:

In the unboxing experience, the Vision Pro headset comes with a dual-loop band. There is also a cover, a battery, and a light seal cushion. Other accessories are a polishing cloth and a USB Type-C charging cable. Moreover, it includes a charger. It sparks an intriguing query – should an iPhone commence at $3,499, would Apple choose to incorporate a charger? Alternatively, could there be a reconsideration of environmental priorities? The answer remains speculative and hinges on unforeseen developments in inflation.

Let’s explore the technical details. The VR headset employs an M2 chip, including an 8-core CPU with 4 rendition cores, 4 efficiency cores, a 10-core GPU, a 16-core Neural Engine, and 16GB of suitable memory. The dedicated R1 chip ensures a 12ms photon-to-photon latency, and the bandwidth is 256GB/s.

Speaking of photons, the displays are capable of refresh rates including 90Hz, 96Hz, and 100Hz, supporting video playback at 24fps and 30fps. The micro OLED panels encompass 92% of the DCI-P3 color space, featuring a 7.5-micron pixel pitch and a total of 23 million pixels. Harness AirPlay to mirror your content from the Apple Vision Pro onto any AirPlay-enabled device.

The Vision Pro VR headset features two high resolution primary cameras, six tracking cameras, four eye-tracking cameras, a LiDAR, four inertial measurement units, and a flicker sensor. There is also an ambient light sensor. Moreover, it includes iris scanner for biometrics, 6 microphones, Spatial Audio, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.3.

For “general use,” the Apple Vision Pro virtual reality headset offers a 2-hour battery life, extending to 2.5 hours for video watching. Charging is possible while using the headset. Weighing between 600 and 650g, the variation depends on the light seal and headband configurations. The separate battery has a weight of 353g.
